Singapore Purchases US Laser Guided Bombs Worth 444 Million USD

The US State Department has licensed the sale of laser-guided bombs to Singapore. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency said the Foreign Ministry has notified the Congress where they approved the sale of 40 GBU-10 2,000 pounds and 84 GBU-12 Paveway II 500-pounds.
Sales also consist of Mark 84 (or BLU-117 / B) 2000 pounds and Mark 82 (or BLU-111 / B) weighing 500 pounds. The package also includes telemetry units for AIM-120 Advanced Medium Range air-to-air missiles, target drones, and various other equipment, spare parts and related support. Estimated cost is US $ 415 million or almost Rp6 trillion.
Singapore is the main security partner of the United States, and the most sophisticated military power in Southeast Asia. This small country operates 40 F-15SG aircraft along with 60 Lockheed Martin F-16C / D Fighting Falcon fighter jets. Singapore also expressed interest in acquiring the F-35 Lightning II.
Due to lack of land and training areas, Singapore has several training detachments based overseas, including in the United States. One of them is Peace Carvin V training detachment, a squadron consisting of American air force and Singaporen. The squadron is based at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho and operates 12 F-15SG aircraft belonging to Singapore for training.
Singapore also has F-16 and Boeing AH-64 Apache training detachments in Arizona, as well as a Boeing CH-47 Chinook training detachment in Texas.
